How your information is used
Patient Echo is a place to share and learn from real healthcare experiences over time. It only works if you can trust it with your story, so here is exactly what happens with what you share.
Who can see what you share
- Journeys: you choose. “Only me” means nobody else can open it. “Patient Echo members” means signed-in members can read it. You can change this anytime.
- Posts in the feed and in public groups can be read by signed-in members. Posts in a private group can only be read by that group's members.
- Messages are between you and the person you're messaging.
- Mood check-ins are only visible to you.
- Answers to Journey questions (from Medi, your Journey guide) are private to you and our team. You can skip any question.
- Your profile (name, photo and bio) can be seen by members.
Our team
A small Patient Echo team can access what's stored in the app, including private Journeys and your answers, to keep the service running, keep people safe, and run the research sessions you've agreed to join. During this early testing period, some of Medi's suggestions are written by our team, and nothing Medi suggests counts until you confirm it.
Services we use
To suggest people on a similar path, we send the text of posts that members can already see to OpenAI to create a numeric summary used for matching. Private Journey entries and private-group posts are not sent. Your photos, videos and posts are stored on servers our team runs.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your personal information or your health story.
- We don't show you advertising based on your health information.
- We won't share anything that identifies you with a company, researcher or healthcare organization without asking you first.
What we may ask you about later
We may offer ways to take part in research, to let de-identified information be included in combined insights for healthcare organizations, or to hear from organizations you choose. Each will be its own choice that you can turn on or off. None of these are turned on today.
Your choices
- Make a Journey private or share it at any time, from the Journey's Manage menu.
- Edit your Journey details, and delete any post.
- Skip any question, or change an answer later.
- Delete your account from Settings. This permanently removes your profile, posts, Journeys, answers and messages.
Not medical advice
Patient Echo is not a medical provider. What members share is their own experience, not medical advice. For questions about your care, talk with your care team. In an emergency, call 911.
